In Mimic Busters you start every hiding round as a plain sentient cube in a furnished room, which matters because a cube is the one shape no Buster will ever mistake for furniture. Before the timer runs low, you have to sculpt yourself into something that belongs there.

Sculpting a Disguise in Mimic Busters
You pick a prop you can see in the room, shape it with built-in modeling tools, paint it and become it. No modeling skill is required, and a disguise is good enough if the Busters believe it, but what counts as believable depends entirely on the room.
Size changes the score. Bigger models earn more points, and hiding near an MBI agent doubles them, which creates a real dilemma between staying small and safe or going big and greedy.
Models can be saved to a library and revised later, and Steam Workshop support takes creations beyond a single lobby, so builders have a reason to keep improving their best lamp or crate.
The 30-Second Squeak
A perfect model is not enough, because Mimics squeak every 30 seconds and Busters listen for it. After the first squeak, every hunter has a rough idea where to look, and that timer becomes the heartbeat of the round.
The smartest answer is hiding among many similar props, so the sound points to several suspects instead of one. By the third squeak, a clever spot can feel crowded with attention.
Busters lose health with every shot, so spraying a room is a losing plan. Waiting for the squeak and inspecting props with slightly wrong proportions or colors works far better, especially around MBI agents where greedy Mimics like to park.
Party Modes Beyond Hide-and-Seek in Mimic Busters
Guess the Mimic flips the roles: one player picks a secret word from several categories and models it while everyone races to guess first, like a drawing party game that also trains your eye for Mimic thinking.
Mimic Deathmatch mixes stealth with ambush, letting you blend into a room and knock out unsuspecting players. Solo and Team Deathmatch drop the mind games for fast shootouts with a wacky arsenal.
The developers promise more modes, maps and balancing, so some strategies may feel stronger than others for now. Friend groups after chaos usually start in Deathmatch before returning to careful hiding.
Questions From the MBI Briefing
- Why does hiding near an MBI agent matter? It doubles the points a Mimic earns, which tempts players to park large models nearby. Smart Busters check those areas first.
- How often do Mimics reveal themselves? Every 30 seconds with a squeak. Hiding among similar props makes that sound much harder to trace.
- Why do Busters lose health when shooting? Every bullet costs health, so random fire punishes the hunter. Waiting for a squeak and inspecting suspicious props is the safer method.
Mimic Busters makes you care how a lopsided lamp reads from across a room. When the squeak sounds and a Buster walks past your bookshelf without firing, a clumsy model becomes a small victory, and doubling your points beside an MBI agent makes it sweeter.
